Autumn Displays

Have you cut bittersweet yet for a fall display?  The colors are quintessential autumn.  The vine is beautiful but also invasive.  I cut it by the side of the road.  My eyes are always peeled for interesting plants as they die off for the winter.

It's great to pick it when the berries are still covered in their orange shells and them watch as the red berry underneath burst out.

Here is a seasonal display with branches of red berries I have yet to identify and the bittersweet amid some of my knitted pumpkins.  The bittersweet twists on itself and is flexible enough to make good wreathes form.  I just noticed the box under the chair.  I never saw it when I took the photo.

Ealrlier in the fall I gathered many kinds of nuts, cones and pods and made this mandalla.

    1. I have places I visit every year and I also keep my eyes peeled when out for a drive on country roads. I carry pruning shears with me! Of course I never pick in a place that has a house near it. Unless it's something like horse chestnuts-nobody minds you picking up those and saving their lawnmower blades!

    1. Thanks for your nice comments. I cut and pasted them into Google Translate. Then I added a widget to my blog so that it can automatically be translated. It is part of Blogger under the Layout section on the left-hand column on the dashboard-check it out.

The photos on your site are beautiful too. I could not figure out how to translate the whole blog so I don't know what the street actors were all about but it looked so interesting!

    1. :) We have huge oak trees and will have years when no acorns are produced, other years when we are inundated.

    1. Yes, it has been my favorite previously but I am beginning to lean towards spring. Those first crocuses and snow drops are exciting.

      BTW, I love mushrooms!

  15. I love bittersweet...although today my daughter was outside and I noticed she quickly put a holly berry in her mouth...which made me wonder which wild berries are poisonous. Turns out bittersweet can be poisonous...I'll have to get rid of ours now!

    1. I read that you'd have to eat a lot of bittersweet berries to make you sick. But with children who wants to take chances.
